I am a pastel painter. I chose this medium because of its immediacy and lightness. Pastel allows you freedom to build a richness of color in a single sitting that I did not find in any other kind of painting. It is the purest pigment in a soft medium that can still give you hard edges while maintaining its beautiful fluidity of expression.

Tidal Marsh Twilight
"Tidal Marsh Twilight" (5" x 7")
After looking at the reference photo for this painting I was really attracted to the "layers" of marsh it seemed to capture. So I painted it emphasizing the different levels of color.
