Seems Like Just Yesterday

"Seems Like Just Yesterday"
(9" x 12")
I have a show coming up this next week for the Cape Cod Art Association entitled "The Beauty of White".  So obviously all the entries must have white involved to some extent. I was looking for some old photos to get some ideas and came across an old pair of my children's baby shoes and thought it doesn't get much more beautiful than a memory of your babies. So I kept it soft and it really does seem like just yesterday that they were little and wearing these little shoes. My son now works for Kia and my daughter is in college. I feel like I'm 100 years old. Oh well. Cheers!!

Artist Footnote (1/19/2011) - I just found out that this painting was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Cape Cod Exhibit.

  1. I know how you feel!! Where did the time go?! Having tried pastels at the beginning of the year and not getting on too well with them,I have a huge respect for pastel artists. This is sublime!! The pale colours and the soft folds of the cloth, amazing!!

    1. Thank you so much Azra. Sometimes I have a hard time not using too much color. I had to be careful when I working on this and tried to keep it simple and innocent. I appreciate that you think it works.

  2. I love the lovely soft colors and all the white in these sweet little shoes...and as a mum the memories just pop up! My two children are more or less the same age as yours, and as you said, it really feel like yesterday they were small!

    1. Thank you Jane!! Sometimes I forget that the best painting subjects can be right in front of you. When I feel strongly about a subject, I almost always do a stronger painting.

  3. Beautifully done. Love the folds in the fabric and the softness of the whole piece. Brings back wonderful memories for me also.
