I am a pastel painter. I chose this medium because of its immediacy and lightness. Pastel allows you freedom to build a richness of color in a single sitting that I did not find in any other kind of painting. It is the purest pigment in a soft medium that can still give you hard edges while maintaining its beautiful fluidity of expression.

Along Putnam Ave., Cotuit (10 x 10 in)
Red Snapper (10 x 10 in)
Just finished these yesterday evening. The woods run along a local road where the light in the morning is warm and dappled. I took several shots of this stand of trees and plan to do several views. The red snapper came from the camera of a good friend who went fishing down in Florida on vacation. When I saw the wonderful color of the fish I just had to paint them. They are very textural and angled and even their little teeth added a nice pattern.
