"Seems Like Just Yesterday" (9" x 12") |
Artist Footnote (1/19/2011) - I just found out that this painting was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Cape Cod Exhibit.
I am a pastel painter. I chose this medium because of its immediacy and lightness. Pastel allows you freedom to build a richness of color in a single sitting that I did not find in any other kind of painting. It is the purest pigment in a soft medium that can still give you hard edges while maintaining its beautiful fluidity of expression.

I know how you feel!! Where did the time go?! Having tried pastels at the beginning of the year and not getting on too well with them,I have a huge respect for pastel artists. This is sublime!! The pale colours and the soft folds of the cloth, amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Azra. Sometimes I have a hard time not using too much color. I had to be careful when I working on this and tried to keep it simple and innocent. I appreciate that you think it works.
DeleteI love the lovely soft colors and all the white in these sweet little shoes...and as a mum the memories just pop up! My two children are more or less the same age as yours, and as you said, it really feel like yesterday they were small!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane!! Sometimes I forget that the best painting subjects can be right in front of you. When I feel strongly about a subject, I almost always do a stronger painting.
DeleteBeautifully done. Love the folds in the fabric and the softness of the whole piece. Brings back wonderful memories for me also.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maria. It seems like the older I get the more precious those memories are. I really appreciate your comments!!
